Course Description

The Canadian Red Cross Remote First Aid (formerly Basic Wilderness & Remote First Aid or Wilderness First Aid) is a 20 hour course for people who participate in activities where EMS response times may be significantly delayed as compared to the urban setting.

This course teaches you the skills of doing first aid in the wilderness through scenario-based practice opportunities.

The course is taught in the outdoors. Participants are required to come prepared with personal and camping gear appropriate for the weather. An additional pack list will be emailed when you register in the course. This course may be taught in a day-school format where participants go home each evening or residential format where participants are except to stay for the entire time. Details will be provided when you register.

Included in course fees

• 3 year certification with the Canadian Red Cross (when you successfully complete the course)
• A personal copy of the Canadian Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid Field Guide
• Food and camping fees required for the course (for residential format only)

Prerequisites

Due to the pace of this course and the focus on wilderness and remote scenarios, we recommend that you have current Standard First Aid certification from one of the national training agencies (Canadian Red Cross, Lifesaving Society, St. John Ambulance, or Heart & Stroke Foundation).
